How it all started
It all began when I discovered the .re domain zone and immediately thought, “HAHA LOL, ΈΛΑ ΡΕ ΚΟΥΜΠΑΡΕ!”.
(What is ΈΛΑ ΡΕ ΚΟΥΜΠΑΡΕ!)
ΈΛΑ ΡΕ ΚΟΥΜΠΑΡΕ! translates to “Come on, my friend!” in English. It’s a friendly and familiar phrase used to encourage or call upon someone, often conveying a sense of camaraderie and warmth—usually the first (and sometimes the only thing newcomers learn about Cyprus).
I decided to buy a domain, kumba.re, and check out how easy it would be in 2024. It was perfect for quickly implementing a joke—about 10 minutes and 30 euros.
Then there was a pause. What should I do with the domain? Why create yet another website on the internet?
Top 100 reasons this website exists
1. I test my content generating writing creating skills
While contemplating the purpose of another website, I decided to test my old skills (manually deploying a CMS) and my new skills (one-click CMS deployment with a provider, writing more than just a funny song using AI, and generating not just humorous images but real ones that look strictly as intended).
Does this mean all the content is generated? Yes, and no, and yes. As I plan to use it as a source of knowledge and share it with my close friends, I try checking the content from different online sources and people and adding my opinion to everything.
I also try implementing some SEO tricks I want to check in a outside-of-my-main-work world.
Moreover, I tested my taste and luck (finding the right template for WP) in website design. I’m satisfied!
2. I share the knowledge and learn new
I decided to tie this all together with my desire to share some knowledge about Cyprus that I have acquired (such as books, music, film cameras, and insights from my so-called Knowledge of Cyprus exam) along with things I wanted to finally remember (history, historical figures, key dates).
By the way, I already think my Bank Holidays page is already better than any other on the Internet.
3. I try to turn learning Greek from a chore into a hobby
In the last few years, I have received a lot of valuable knowledge about Cyprus and Greece from my Greek language teacher, which I would like to make accessible and valuable for everyone.
Also, I want to start watching Cypriot and Greek movies.
And it’s time to remember some essential verbs and phrases. (I’ve added valid words related to the topic at the bottom of almost every page.)
4. I want to be ready for any questions
Who knows if it will be a παππούς in a coffee shop in a village or the commission deciding on your legal status upgrade of the island.
5. Sometime I want to convert time saved on not watching Reels into something
But I still love reels.
So, what came out of this, and why is there another website on the Internet?
